The brief
Grow the Le Chat mobile app with new flows and new native capabilities.
Context
Le Chat, the Mistral AI mobile app, needed new flows and capabilities that React Native does not expose on its own. The app is in production on iOS and Android, with a team shipping continuously: every change has to land without slowing the others down, and every native module has to hold on both platforms from its first version. The brief: grow a consumer app by integrating the new designs and writing the native code required.
Approach
The new designs were integrated into the app, including the whole onboarding flow, the user's first contact with the product. Several native modules were written in Swift and Kotlin to open new capabilities, notably native file opening on iOS through Quick Look, integrated with React Native so that previewing a document behaves like in any Apple app. All of it on an Expo base, with cross reviews and without interrupting the team's releases. Each module ships with its TypeScript types and a fallback on the platform that does not support the feature, so the JavaScript side never has to guess.
